  <title>Loantaka Grocery-O -- June 8, 2008</title>
  <link>http://www.hvo.us.orienteering.org/News/article/sid=166.html</link>
  <description>Fun n&#039; Games Grocery-O
Loantaka Reservation
Chatham, Morris County, NJ
Sunday, June 8, 2008

Weather: Warm and sunny
Starts: 33
Competitors: 51

This year&#039;s fun and games event featured the return of Grocery-O; an event first devised by that legendary O-savant Jon Nash. The event is basically a 75 minute Score-O event with a twist. At each control location was either a grocery item or a picture and description of a grocery item. A competitor purchased said item by punching at that control. The goal was to get as close to 26.99 in groceries without going over. With the fairly easy control sites, all levels of competitors enjoyed a fun event on a warm summer-like day.

A wonderful day at Lake Welch in Harriman State Park on the WOC Rockhouse map! Bernie’s courses were appreciated by all who ran. The barberry was thick in places but the vegetation boundries drawn about 15 years ago were still useable loacating position. A group of beginners from North Rockland JROTC were out on White and then on Yellow. Several people learned a lot on Orange and Green as well. The park personel were a great help. A fine O day!
